I got a zotac 970(2x6 power) last week (upgraded from 7950 (2x6 power) and have been having issues with it, the box it came in was beat up so I was thinking it was the card was at fault.
I then bought an ASUS GTX strix 970 (1x8 power) today to see and its doing the same thing sadly :(

When I boot up it shows the gigabyte bios screen and goes no further, I cant press del to get in etc either.
Strange thing is that sometimes when I re-seat the 970 it will randomly work after a few reboots, it seems like its detecting new hardware everytime, I as of yet have been unable to determine what it is I am doing that gets it to work.
I put the 7950 back in and it booted first time and works fine.
So i'm thinking along the lines of mobo, psu, bios at the moment but would like some ideas as to what you guys think it could be?

Specs:
I have a 700w beQuiet straight power PSU.
Gigabyte GAZ77X-d3h Mobo. F16 Bios
3570K
16gb RAM

Turns out I needed the latest Beta BIOS, just got it working on F18i bios, woop, now I can enjoy crimbo with some FC4 on ultra :D

I'll keep this in mind for when I SLI my 970... Oh it's gonna be fun on the 27" 1440p dell.

What wattage is your PSU :)?

Older gigabyte boards always seem to need bios updates to work with the latest cards whereas MSI and ASUS boards just work but at the same time no longer recieve bios updates.

Just to update this, it worked ok for a day or so, on bios F18i
Now every time I cold reboot, on first attempt to POST it fails then reboots and boots to the factory (2nd) bios which wont work with the card as that bios is too old and doesn't contain the necessary VGA compatibility update.
So unless I can either force it to boot into the first bios or I'll need a new board... fs :/

To add, If I flash with the latest bios (f18i) and reboot with the gtx970 installed, it will boot fine, but any time I power down and switch it back on it fails to load the new bios, surely it wouldn't be corrupt or it wouldn't work in the first boot?
Only other thing I can think of is its a beta BIOS but its from 2014 and I'm sure there will no more updates due to the age of the mobo now.
I could maybe try an older BIOS again, bloody dual bios nonsense!

That would make sense, I may try a slightly older BIOS than the beta one first and see if that works in case the BIOS beta is the issue itself.

Seems there's no choice to do that, it copies the main BIOS to the backup, its sorta working now but still fails to boot first time.
It reboots a few times (i presume it's detecting a hardware change every time even when nothing has changed)
It seems to do this with on board graphics only also when I make any sort of change, even changing peripherals to a different USB board causes that behavior.
Guess a non Gigabyte! Mobo/CPU upgrade will be on the horizon soon lol.

That behavior is more common than you think and I have seen reports of other manufacture boards doing it.

Try disabling stuff you dont use such as integrated gfx.

Yea its mostly working now, boots first time most times now but need to keep testing it and playing around with it like you say, something must still be causing an issue.
