Issue with asus p5q-e not booting

hi,

trying to help a friend sort out a problem via msn, hes got a p5q-e, 8500, 2x2gb giel black dragon pc6400, ati 4870.

build it out the case and it booted fine, on putting it into the case it wont boot at all, cpu fan spins for a second then nothing.

tried taking out of the case but now it won't work out the case now

tried running one stick of memory in the different memory slots, anyone any other ideas ?

tried that without success

don't understand whats changed since the intial build on the mobo box that worked, up to the point of it being removed from the case and returned onto the box.

Are both power connectors plugged in, the 24 pin and the 8 pin? i know it sounds a dumb thing, but i forgot to add the 8 pin and while the pc powered up, lots of wirring noises in the case etc & even the mobo light came on, it would not boot

yeah both power connectors are in okay.

no, not tried any overclocking as yet.

turns out its his new psu thats iffy

managed to get a lower powered psu connected up with minimal system connected to try and get a boot and it worked fine, just gotta rma his psu, hes gutted about the rma but happy hes found the problem
