Hi guys, can you help me out.

Basically everytime my friend loads up his PC, within a few minutes of logging onto the desktop it just freezes up, he can't do nothing, no short keys, no mouse etc.

Sometimes he will get a black screen and it won't even bother to load up, it will just continue to reset itself over and over again.

Anyone have some input as to what it can be? Hardware perhaps or software?

Not over clocked at all, basic PC spec really.

It booted to safe mode ok.

He can't download memtest due to not being able to actually do anything when the pc has loaded lol

It crashed when he tried booting it into safe mode with Network.

Maybe you could download memtest and burn to a cd, and then he can boot off it, to check the mem.

He could reseat all memory DIMMs, or take them all out and put 1 in at a time.

When it resets itself over and over does it reach Windows or just reset before/during POST?

Crashing in Windows could be a problem with Windows itself.

If you can get to BIOS try leaving it sat there and see if it freezes and resets from there.

If it boots to safemode and works ok for sometime then perhaps it worth looking at what drivers and services are loading at startup - has he got the latest graphics card drivers? Consider running driver sweeper or something similar and reinstalling them. When did the problem start - what changed?
EDIT - scratch that - just seen the post about booting with network, have you tried Windows startup repair?

It reaches Windows very rarely, half the time it just starts up, with a black screen, but you can hear it just restarting itself over and over again.
