issue with creative xfi elite pro

Hi all i have a creative x-fi elite pro sound card but when i plug the external console into it, it doesn't show up in windows and when i plug in or take out speaker / headphones into the pci card whilst windows is on the whole computer freezes and i get a high pitched sound. I don't know if its the card itself thatch causing the issue or what exactly it is . ATM I'm using the sound card on my Hercules mk2 mixer which isn't as good.
