Hi Guys, after a little help if you can.

I bought a new 4670k and a Z87X-UD3H the other day, installed it fine, only problem during installation was the processor gate was a bit tight to close but works fine first power on. I have 16gb of Crucial Ballistix 1866 memory (the ones with the LEDs) and a Windforce 7950 in it also that come from my old rig that work fine.

The problem I have is every other power on it fails to start, with dual bios enabled it cycles on and off on and off in a loop. I turn it off a few times and it works.

If I put it in single bios mode it shows error code 15 (Pre-memory North Bridge initialization is started) and hangs there without the memory leds lighting up. power on off a few times and it works.

I've tried putting just one memory stick in, in every slot, same result.

I've upgraded the bios to F7, no difference.

I'm using the machine now and when its booted its fine, been playing BF4 beta :)

Any clues?

ok tried the new BIOS, still the same issue. Done a bit of googling and seems a few people have the same problem but I cant find a solution? Incompatible ram? never had that before!

Does the problem go away at 1600MHz?

If you're using 1.5v, try raising it a little - try 1.55, 1.60 and 1.65v.

My memory is TeamGroup Vulcan RED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD316G2133HC11ADC01), I have no idea who actually makes it.
I'd hate to lose £70 moving from the MSI to Gigabyte then find the ram doesn't work right.

Update on this, been back and forth with Gigabyte support, still no joy, bios updates, power supply changes, video card change etc. I tried some old DDR3 I had and it works fine. The ram that doesnt work works fine in my other machine. Tried every combination of settings. volts, timings etc, it works fine once booted and passed AIDA stress test all night long, but wont turn on properly with that ram. Grrr

I get this problem Suprahill when I put my ram in the wrong ports on the motherboard. I only have 8GB, but If say I tried to put the ram in A1,A2, as apposed to A1 and B1, it will cycle on and off or I wont get a display on my monitor. Have you tried with just 8GB?

Hello mate, yeah tried that, with one stick, two, all of them etc, same problem. I'm still waiting for Gigabyte to get back to me :(

Update on this opinions please.

I've spoken to Crucial who make the RAM and Gigabyte. Gigabyte want me to send my ram to them for the to test which I dont wan to do. Crucial confirm on their site that the RAM is compatible but in email say they have not actually tested it. To me, the ram is not fit for purpose as it works but not in this board although they advertise it does. I used their website to confirm my buying decision for the motherboard. Nothing is wrong with the motherboard as it work with other ram, nothing is wrong with the RAM as it works in my other machine.

Should Crucial be liable to replace the 16gb of ram? I bought it here 6 months ago so cant return it. The motherboard was purchased elsewhere but due to the back and forth with Gigabye and Crucial, I guess its too late to send it back and it works too...

Thanks

I would send ram to gigabyte for testing, they will either write back saying it worked fine or they will give you a custom bios to use and fix it with a bios update
