Hi all,
I'm having some serious issues with my new build and would like some help to find the cause, as the system is now totally unusable.
Since getting my kit delivered from OcUK about a week or so ago I have been getting random reboots when using vista SP1 x64. Originally I put it down to it being 64bit vista, but I went to install Ubuntu last night and it crapped out on me 3 times in a row before I gave up the install.
What generally happens is the pc reboots, just as if I had hit the reset switch. Sometime, not always I get a message when I log back into windows to say that there was an error that windows had recovered from a crash, but I don't get a blue screen.
I very really get a blue screen before it dies, but this has happened twice in the last 10 reboots over the last 12hours. The first BSOD said it was a stop error but gave no code and the second mentioned something like: IRQL not being less than or equal? I have had a look at the 4 minidump crash reports vista gives and they all seem to relate to the NTOS Kernel.
I need to run memcheck86 as a friend seems to think the issue is my ram, but i just want to rule out any other possibilities.
My system specs are:
Q6600 G0
4gb kit of OCZ Flex II - the 1150mhz hybrid cooled stuff, currently on air
MSI P7N Diamond
OcUK 9800 GX2
Swiftech H2O-220 compact - mounted internally
Antec P190 case
Vista SP1 x64 Ultimate OEM
2x 300gb samsung (i think) SATA drives.
Temp wise the CPU cores are idling at 30-31 degrees for 3 of the cores and 34 for the forth. under load they go up by about 10 degrees at most.
I have rest the bios to the defaults and this still wont help, the ram is running at 800mhz, the most I can get it to post at is 1125, but it then craps out in windows almost as soon as you log in. I have generally been running it at 1066 with the default timings for 1150mhz of 5-5-5-5-18-24, as I can find the right timings for 1066mhz.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received, thanks.
