Issue with OcUK forums, only on Firefox 3!

Hi all,

I have a strange situation happening right now. Generally, I use FF 3.5 for web browsing. I was using the OcUK forums this morning, no trouble. However, now when I try to refresh it, it just sits at "Looking up forums.overclockers.co.uk..." and doesn't respond. Restarting the browser doesn't help.

Thing is, it ONLY happens with forums.overclockers.co.uk. Other sites (Google, news.bbc, reddit) all work fine. Even www.overclockers.co.uk works fine!

And if you're asking, how am I posting this, well, IE8 on the same machine, at the same time, CAN see forums.overclockers.co.uk. :mad::confused:

Anyone seen anything like this before, and have a fix? :(
 
I just click the "refresh" button again ;-)
It's almost obvious that my FF doesn't show forum at first time (FF 3.08 for Linux, 3.5.2 for Windows).
 
What addons do you have installed? Sometimes they can screw up firefox. I'd delete all history, cookies etc and see if it helps. Then I'd try a total reinstall. Firefox isn't as bulletproof as it once was, it seems to get more bloated with each release, even though a lot of the features are quite nice.

Give chrome or opera a go too, you might find they're faster, I certainly did.

I moved to Chrome with version 3 and haven't looked back. It opens, closes and loads pages so much faster than Firefox 3.5. Still use Firefox for Web Developer toolbar, Firebug, etc. but Chrome has really grown on me.

I have some standard plugins installed in FF: adblock plus, chromatabs, firebug, noscript (with exceptions for overclockers). The page doesn't even seem to be getting as far as talking to the site.

I don't particularly want to change browser, just wondering why this one site is failing in FF but not in other browsers!
 
Had the same issue a while ago and couldn't find a solution. At the time I thought it was just a problem with OcUK but it wasn't. It happens with lots of sites although I have to spend a while on each one and do a few page refreshes before it happens. Only noticed it happening here because of the amount of time I spend browsing.

Edit: Just reread the OP. Restarting Firefox always cures my problem for a while.

If it's sticking at "Looking up...", it sounds a lot like a DNS issue. Have you got some kind of proxy config in IE that isn't in Firefox (or vice versa)?
 
Funny enough fross, I actually have the exact same problem as you. Every so often, the forums simply won't load. Every other website is fine though. When the forums won't load using Mozilla Firefox, when I try Internet Explorer 8, it works absolutely fine.

When I was first getting this problem, clearing my recent history, cookies etc solved the issue. However, now, even if I do that, it doesn't make any difference. I have to close Mozilla Firefox completely, which doesn't clear anything, and then launch it back up to get the forums to load again.
