Hi all,
I recently built my first gaming PC from scratch but have been experiencing some random crashes where the screen will freeze on whatever it is showing at the time of the crash and any sound playing at the time will loop with a kind of buzzing noise.
It doesn't seem to happen at any particular time - sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes after 4/5 hours.
No idea what could be causing this, could anyone help?

My specs are as follows:
Case - Fractal design R4
CPU - I5 6600K Quad Core 3.5ghz
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA Z170-HD3P ATX LGA1151
RAM - 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4-2400
Memory - Samsung 850 EVO series 500gb SSD
GPU - EVGA GeForce 980 GTX 4gb Superclocked ACX2.0
PSU - EVGA Supernova GS 550W Gold
Wireless - TP-Link WDN-4800
Optical drive - Samsung SH-224FB/BEBE
OS - Win 10

I'm using a 48" Samsung smart TV with gaming mode turned on as a monitor.

All drivers are definitely up to date.
Motherboard bios has been updated to version 3 (most recent available) and I am using optimised default settings within bios.
Idle temperature of CPU is just above 30 degrees when checked with Hardware monitor, likewise with the GPU.

No the skreen just freezes and stays showing whatever I was last doing and I have to hard restart to get it back on
I haven't got speccy
I've only got an SSD, no HDD but I have unplugged/plugged the wires back into that and checked that they were in properly but it still crashes:mad:

Looking through that forum - some people are seeing the same problems as me and I didn't actually use 8.1 for long before upgrading to 10 so not sure if it was freezing before I had 10.
I'll downgrade to 8.1 and see how that works, will post what happens.

Yeah my problem seems to occur after a long session on World of Warcraft specifically
My original thoughts were maybe a mobo or gpu overheating problem but I've ran hardware monitor in the background while playing up until a crash and the gpu didn't seem to go above 70 degrees C, could be a mobo problem I guess
Will try memtest and a fresh windows install tomorrow and feedback

I don't think it's the memory, I've never had any sort of warning or error message for it but as I say I'll try running memtest from a usb later.

Yeah I had a look at the admin area on event viewer and nothing of note really came up, it recognised that there had been a crash but didn't seem to point me towards what might be causing it

Was playing for a few hours last night with no addons enabled, turned them on and crashed about an hour later, checked whocrashed but there were no crash dump files found.
Will try leaving addons off for an entite night next.

After disabling addons I managed to have a long session without any freezes so it definitely seems like the addons were the culprit!
Managed to get Cities: Skylines installed and had a good long flawless session on there so it seems the problem's solved!
Thanks all for your time/help:)

Hi all,
After disabling addons I DID have some sessions without crashing, however, I suspect I just didn't test it for as long as I had before.
After a couple of sessions I had more crashes, I crashed on a few different games after checking, e.g, WoW, Cities Skylines, Dishonored.
So finally I tried the windows reinstall, I went back to 8.1 from 10 using my disc and that had fixed the problem...have thoroughly tested and haven't had a crash for a week now, so looks like Olivier Renault you were right!
