Hi all,

I have just rooted my SGS2 and when i go into ROM manager and reboot into ClockWorkMod recovery, i receive the following error:

-- Installing Package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to veryify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Now i've seen a few posts around the web but i'm not sure what the problem is or how to resolve it.

Any ideas?.

Stop using ROM Manager :).

Assuming the download is actually fine, if you rooted using CF-Root (which you should have) go to recovery manually (when powered off "Vol Up+Home+Power") > install zip from SD card > install zip from internal SD (if using CWM 5) or install zip from SD (if using CWM 4) > select .zip to flash.

The CWM app that comes with CF-Root is basically the same without the downloading CM7 ROMs I think, I'm not sure as I don't really like those apps.

I just have reboot to recovery/download on the power menu, so flash everything manually :).

Right, ok. Sorry, normally used to jailbreaking so new ground here.

Have just re-flashed using the above mentioned CWM5. What would you do next?- In simple terms please :).

Well I can't comment on any of the current ICS ROMs (which WILL have bugs, whether they're a problem to you I can't comment on :)), but for Gingerbread based ROMs (Android 2.3.x) CheckROM/CM7/VillainROM are probably the most popular ones (maybe MIUI too, but I dislike them too much to recommend them :p) :).

Check/VillainROM are based on Samsungs firmware and without themes look exactly the same as standard, they just have speed/battery improvements. There's a load of themes to download for them, a popular one being ICS Domination.

CM7 is based on completely stock Android, so lacks Samsung features like GPU accelerated launcher (the home screens/app drawer etc.), TV out etc, but comes without any Samsung "bloat" (you can just delete this in Samsung based ROMs anyways if you're rooted :)), as well as stock Android apps, their own speed/battery improvements etc.

I'd recommend trying out CM7 and CheckROM, and trying out some themes/different launchers for each of them and see what you prefer :).

If you decide to flash CM7 flash it twice, one after the other to avoid any possible problems :).
