I bought this CPU as an upgrade a couple of weeks back and after installing it recently I'm quite concerned about the temps & the lack of an overclock.

My idle temps are quoted by Core temp to be between 50 & 60 degrees and they go up to 80 - 85 under load

I've also tried some tentative overclocks without success. Using a similar setup I managed to overclock my old Duo 6600 to 3.2

My mobo is the original MSI 680i with the latest bios and I'm using a Freezer 7 Pro + AS5.

What the hell could be to blame for this ?

I did have a lot if difficulty getting all 4 legs inserted properly but I managed it in the end.

I did use more paste than is necessary because I covered the entire hs plate with a layer of AS5. I realise now how it should be done.

Is this soley responsible for my issues ?

Definately something wrong there mate. My new build of Q6600 running at 3.2 Ghz, Core Temps reporting 32/31/28/28 idle with TT cooler.

I'd rip the cooler off, clean all the TIM off, apply "very" thin line of AS5 (or similar) across the chip and re-seat. The TT was a BITCH to fit but very pleased with it - but yours is also a good cooler if seated right.

Sounds stupid, but have you checked the vcore in CPU-Z?

Core voltage is fine (1.27) - so it seems I'm gonne need to pull the damned thing apart and start again.

Cheers guys - I'll report back with results.
