Ok so i got the email about my xboxlive renewal coming up but in the last year ive changed bank card so my details are a bit different.

Anyway ive been glued to ff7 on the psp (love eeet) and forgot to change my details

So in the past 2 weeks ive been emailed 3 times now by microsoft saying there having issues billing me for my xbox live (wonder why) although theyve kept me on a gold membership which is now apparently free.

Im likely to renew it properly when i get paid later in the month. I was just wondering if anyone else has come across any issues with their live account like this

Yes, they are annoying. They assume you want to have the "auto renew" feature switched on, and the only way to turn it off so you revert to silver when your sub runs out is to phone them up. WHY NOT GIVE US THE OPTION ON THE ******* WEBSITE!

As soon as you put new card details in they'll charge you.

I didnt think they would extend it without being paid first.
I suppose it's not your fault, if they decided to leave you on gold despite not being able to take a payment.

Just grab a 12month sub from one of the known sites such as jasper or bombay as its far cheaper than allowing MS to auto renew you.

If they don't get there money they will suspend/ban the Gamer tag although I am not sure how long they wait to do so.

Banned for them not reverting me to silver that in itself is a complete joke! I seriously don't get the service at times because it wouldn't be an issue on my Ps3.

Has anyone actually been banned or suspended for this though?

They ban you because you owe them money! If they reverted you to silver there is no incentive to pay the debt or renew your Gold.
It's a bit like a mobile phone (on contract) if you don't pay your bill they wil cut you off and not downgrade to a PAYG.

TBH I've never paid MS direct for Live or Points, as you save so much buying scratch cards, but when you hand over your CC details it must say it auto renews, and I know it says in the T&C's you must keep you CC details upto date.

And of course its not an issue on your PS3, you dont pay for that :p

I thought you could switch off auto-renew using xbox.com now? It's in account management.

Surely you don't owe them money...Or have I missed something, You pay for 12 months at a time right? Just because its on a card doesn't give them a right to go ahead and try for another 12 months afterwards

You owe them money because of the 'Auto-Renew' clauses in the t&c. It auto-renews, fails and then like any other contract stops you until you've paid in full for the contract you agreed to. A bit dumb really, hence why I think most people use pre-pay cards.
