I shut my PC down a few days ago so I could shut the power off to fix a wiring issue elsewhere in the house. Once I completed the work I returned to the PC and it wont start, power LED shows on the motherboard but simply no life. No trauma to pc, didnt even move, no power surge but mains power was off for an hour. PC is in regular use otherwise and has had no issues...

I havce an old i7 920 cpu, P6T SE mobo and simple SSD/SATA and DVD drive setup, nothing special.

I have another PC but dont want to strip out the PSU to test it, I have cut the mobo down to minimum connections without any difference, no sign of life other than the LED light. I( dont have a spare cpu , mobo or memory to swap out items.

I have removed the cmos battery, reset bios with it in and out without any change. Im running out of anything else simple to try and am close to just buying another PC, or mobo/mem/cpu bundle online.

Any ideas of anything else to try, or anyone had similar symptoms? I cant get over the fact it simply shows no sign of life or even attempting to start without any trauma involved.

Once powered down, did you unplug it from the wall socket? or is it connected to something like a 4-way? was that unplugged?

It is in a 4 way, all other devices plugged into the 4 way working and power cable itself checked on another device... I didn't unplug anything, just shut it down and turned off power at fuse box before the work was done.

Power surge when you flicked the power back on could have damaged something with it still plugged in, just a possibility...

Well, spent the evening stripping out the PSU and swapped in another and it starts fine, looks like that was the issue. Thanks for the replies. :)

Due to totally rewiring it I seem to have the boot SSD in the wrong sata now so may have to reinstall OS due to errors, but at least its cheaper than a new machine!

Can you not just set the SSD as boot drive in bios rather than reinstalling since you switched cables.

ssd was set to boot, but drive letters changed during boot. Played with adding/removing drives and it finally reverted back to the right drive letter during boot.

Back alive today!
