After a bit of advice with a problem related to crashing drivers during games.
Upgraded my ancient 8800GTX and Dell 2405 screen to a zr30w/6970 crossfire setup, ahead of upgrading the rest of the system when the P67 bug gets worked out. Putting the new stuff into the existing PC worked fine except that every few minutes or so while playing games the display driver resets itself, causing a hang for 10 seconds or so and then popping up the "driver successfully reset itself" tooltip from Windows. No issues outside games, so likely a load-related issue.
Current PC spec:
* Asus Rampage Formula X48-based mobo (with most recent BIOS)
* 8Gb RAM
* Q9450 CPU at stock speed at voltages
* 4 HDDs
* PC Power & Cooling Silencer Quad 750W PSU
* Two Asus HD6970 GPUs at stock config
* 30" screen
Things I've tried without success:
* Driver Cleaner 2.8.5 in safe mode
* Removing one of the 6970s
* Fresh Windows install
Things on my "to try next" list:
* Install the Corsair AX850 PSU I have sitting here - but surely there's no way 750W could be insufficient with just one GPU?
* Try the other 6970 in case of dodgy hardware
* Possibly try underclocking the GPU
* Stick the old 8800GTX and screen on until I can upgrade the rest of the system in a couple of months - but only as a last resort
A quick bit of Googling threw up a few people who'd OCed their CPUs and had to bump their MB volatages a bit to keep the GPU happy, but as I'm running at stock I'd be surprised if that was the case. Is there any merit to trying to mess with the GPU voltages?
Any other ideas?
