Issues with budget build

Hi all

Today I put together a build I've had laying around a few weeks... Basically nothing is displaying on the monitor, I've not got a second psu to try but there is power going to the pc as its running as if its ready to go...

I've removed the RAM and reseated it,
I tried second slot for GPU,
No luck with onboard graphics,
Checked gpu connections,
Cleared CMOS..

I'm now thinking it's PSU failure

Specs are:

Intel G4560
MSI z170A Tomahawk
16gb team group 3200mhz
Rx570 4gb
EVGA 500W White PSU

Any ideas please you lovely bunch

Try removing the RX 570 and using the iGPU on your CPU - see if you get any signs of life.

But, first, check your monitor doesn't need to be manually reminded which lead it has connected to it.

*Also, double check you're plugged into GPU and not motherboard - easily done if in a hurry.

Checked all was plugged into the GPU still no signal

Removed the RX570 and tried iGPU still no signal
However now I have a debug light on constant for the DRAM?

Update: No DRAM light now I have took RAM out and gave it a blow clean on sticks and the slots... Still no signal when plugging into GPU or Motherboard

EDIT: DRAM LIGHT BACK ON :mad:

Keep the card out - clear CMOS (battery method, unplugged 10 minutes) and then install only one stick (alternate if necessary) and try again using on-board GPU.

Do you have any other DDR4 you could try?

I'll give this ago tomorrow at some point... This is the only 2 sticks I have unfortunately

Id start by checking for bent pins in the socket, obviously not the PSU as its springing to life, its just not posting, 8 pin CPU power cable connected ?

Have you ever used that CPU with that board before ? I ask as it could be a bios issue, that CPU wasnt supported by that board until bios version 1.9.

You could also try the GPU in the other x16 slot, to rule out the GPU, test in another PC is possible.

Ahhh now you say it I think the BIOS could be a good shout.. It came with a B250 board so I will try running it from that board today... I tried the GPU in the second slot but had no luck with it

You would need a pre-KabyLake CPU to flash the bios on that board, I dont really keep up with Intels naming schemes, so I dont know what it would be, but id imagine it would be a 3xxx CPU of some description, maybe SkyLake, then you would have to either flash V1.9 or V1.A first, as the naming of the bios files changed after that, and the board would probably complain or fail to flash the newer bioses, thinking they were the wrong bios, at that point your CPU would work in it, then follow on with 7970v1B and then jump straight to the latest 7970v1E.

I don't usually build with older components but this is a cheap project I wanted to try out watercooling on... Like you I'm not sure with older intel CPU'S, If it was Ryzen I'd understand and know what's what

I will try it in the B250 board when I get home from Bowling

UPDATE: Thanks for all your input and help @Jamin280672 @Plec , I changed the motherboard to the B250 and it seems to be working fine, it must have been BIOS related, I will post back if any issues occur... Fingers crossed

No worries - i think @Jamin280672 called it right. It may be worth putting a shout-out on the 'Wanted Forum' to see if someone in your local area has a SkyLake CPU that you could borrow briefly to flash the board.

sounds to me like you have bent pins on the socket as it works with another mobo fine. can be very hard to find but a close inspection should give you the answer.
