Issues with Chrome

My Son's PC updated Chrome last night and now will not load.

I have tried the following

- Removed and re installed Chrome renaming the appdata folder and x86 folder.
- System restore back to when it was working last.
- Checked Windows updates.
- Reset Windows 11 but keeping my files.
- Deleted Chrome reg keys and re installed.

Now the only thing that will get chrome to load is renaming Chrome.exe to Chrome1.exe then it will load fine without any issues at all.

If its set to Chrome.exe you can see it loading something but instantly closes.

I have checked my PC (Windows 11) and this also updated without any issues along with a Windows 11 laptop I also have.

Does anyone else have any ideas of what is causing the issue or how to fix it?

I am not far off doing a clean windows 11 install but seems extreme just to get Chrome working

You could try Chrome for Enterprise, this version install for a machine (program files) instead of a user (appdata).

If you want to stay with the user version, after an uninstall search for any Chrome related folders in the user profile and delete.

The application be able to run after the executable has been re-named makes the issue seem like malware or misconfigured application control software, although why that would persist through the system restore I'm not sure.

You could try safe mode with no networking to see if it will start up normally there without renaming.

May have to try the enterprise version, I assume you can login to your account etc?

I did try that but had no joy. Uninstalled, deleted the folders, rebooted and re installed.

Ill give safe mode a try next time I am on there.

He just plays PC games and does not do any downloads so doubt its malware but will keep that in mind
