Issues with graphics card

Hi all,

Looking for some help here.

At Christmas I gave my son my old PC. Within a few days the Graphics card stopped working. The system powers up but the screen freezes or blackscreens.

We just removed the GPU and turned on the internal cpu graphics which isnt great but it's a fix.

He posted on these forums and on the back of the advice has just purchased a 2nd hand 1070. However, upon plugging it in, it's not working.

The GPU fan starts up but then stopps. We get a medium/long beep followed by two short ones and then every 10 seconds or so we get a single beep.

A) Thoughts on getting this working? (We've tried reseting bios, tried the other PCI slot)
B) Given that there are two GPU's now not working (but both power up) is it likely to be the mobo?

If it is B, then what are the best options for us? there is not really any spare funds for this but we have a workng CPU, (hopefully) a working GPU and 16g of Ram (DDR3 I thinK).

Ideally I'd like not to have to purchase more gear so the preference would be to get it working. But failing that, what are some mobo options - new or 2nd hand?

Hi all,

We'll try re-seating the ram which I beleive is just a case of turning everything off and removing power cables and removing the ram and placing back in again? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't find the receipts but the power supply is Corsair and is about two years old as I purchased it for a GPU that didn't "fit" in the case and was returned.

It was good enough to power the GPU that stopped working when I gave the PC to my son.

It's a 550 or a 650.

Hi,

Not yet. Was keen to cover all other options first as I was keen to avoid opening my new system to try this. Older PC's I'm happy to play around with.... more expensive ones.... less so, but I guess we're running out of options.

Does the medium beep and three (not two) short beeps tell us anything?

Found this:



I removed the keyboard and the three beeps stopped. I then had a single short beep every 18/20 seconds.

I assume continuous beep could be every 20 seconds or so, however that doesn't really feel "continuous" but I guess it's all relative.

I've just been looking through old posts. I'm pretty sure the power supply I purchased was:

Corsair TX550M 550W 80 Plus Gold Semi Modular Power Supply (CP-9020133-UK)

Would this be sufficient to power the card? There is very little else going on in the machine. Just a couple of SSD's

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice so far.

My Son did a little research and (incredibly) reset and updated the bios and now it works.

Hat's off to him..... I'd have not wanted to do that myself

can you post some pics of the internal and rear of the computer with the gpu in and we can see how it's all connected up please

what is the bios version?
i am wondering if your bios needs an update to the latest available bios to play nice with the GPU
(i also had a gigabyte z77 board running a pascal 1080ti - same gen as the 1070 - which needed a bios update before my system would recognise the graphics card)

Just saw this now. It was the BIOS.... great shout.
