Issues with Habu, Copperhead, etc on Windows XP

Hi,

Just bought a MS Habu which I believe is pretty much a rebranded Razer Copperhead. After going through blood, sweat and tears actually getting the damn thing installed properly (it would just say "No Mouse Detected" for ages until I figured out the drivers weren't fully installed properly) whenever I use the Razer Config utility and change the mouse polling rate, it makes no difference?....

Has anyone else experienced this?

I know about overwriting usbport.sys in Safe Mode to force a specific Hz speed but I assumed this wasn't necessary when the option is there in this utility to change it on the fly. Also, interestingly, even when I overwrite usbport.sys with a 1000hz-forced version it still shows as 125hz when I move the mouse around. If I plug my old regular Intellimouse Optical in I get the expected results - 750-1000hz speed.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Changing usbport.sys (the polling rate) won't work on the Habu. The drivers override it - as they should given you're supposed to be able to change the rate via an application.

yeah noticed it didnt have any effect..

The application your given even though you set it too 1000/500/125, it still stays the same on that mouserate

So anyway to get it to 500mhz or 1000mhz?

Its a issue with firmware 2 thats cuasing the problem, you can get round it by flashing it into a copperhead, by;

install the latest copperhead drivers, (the mouse will NOT be detected)

follow the same procedure as a copperhead to flash the firmware to the latest copperhead firmware

you now need to uninstall the copperhead drivers, and reinstall them, this time the drivers should recognise your habu as a copperhead.

check http://www.razerblueprints.net for more information.

Its installed ok, and working fine, I've been to this site, are you talking about the polling rate or just getting the mouse to work correctly and to be recognised?

Flashing it with Copperhead firmware? Not something I really want to do, hopefully new firmware will be out.

polling rate will work when its flashed as a copperhead.
Its your choice what you do with your mouse, its worth reading the forum i linked to, i belive there was another work around for polling rate.

Hi Durzel,

I've just bought the Habu mouse but I'm unable to get it installed. There seems to be conflicting instructions on whether to plug in the mouse into the USB port first and then install the software or vice versa. Either way, the mouse is not being detected when Windows reboots.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

If you just want to get it working, go to device manager/human interface devices.. Something should be there if u look under properties, as Habu, from here update drivers...

If u want to to get the polling rate above 125, u have to do flash it with and install copperheard software/firmware

this looked such a promising mouse too :(, just on a side note about the habu for those that have one! how does it compare to a mx518 if anyone knows? i.e. whats the size like in comparison and how does it feel in hand?

Thanks for the link and advice Deyvy! After many goes, I finally got is working. This was more hard work than doing a motherboard upgrade! It does look nice with the blue lights (yeah, I'm shallow :D) but I'm dreading the next time I have to install it again.

Contrary to what I said I did install the copperhead firmware, wanted to see what it would be like polling at 500nhz..

Shouldn't be a problem installing it again, as its got the copperhead firmware on..Just have to use copperhead drivers and software, although it was tricky holding down the button on the bottom and then clicking ok..

Lol, once I got use to my old intellimouse, I didnt like the diamondback when I got it, now I got used to the diamondback, I prefer the feel over the Habu, or maybe I'm used to it..But I do prefer the thumb buttons on the Habu and the DPI buttons on it, makes it easier to change than the diamondback..

Cant really say in regards comparing it too the MX518..I had a logitech cordless a long time ago, I still seem to get the impression that their mice are relatively larger the others..usually have the whole hand on their except the wrist..I like to have a finger or part of the thumb on the table, so can help feel how fast slow I'm moving the mouse..

looks like i have a good'un then, updated drivers and firmware to 2.00 when i got it then updated the drivers and firmware to 2.01 yesterday, everything is fine for me and not a problem.

dont know about the polling rate, havnt checked it yet but will do when i get home.

on a side note, link for the wallpaper? :D

Polling rate, apparently when you apply changes, you have to unplug-replug usb...

It worked for me...It wont change just by applying it in the config...Might take mine down, on that checker can go up to 2000..CPU load goes up when I move it around on desktop
