Hey all !!

So ive done a new build , with all brand new parts , but im having the odd black screen flash , mostly when im running a game. Temps are fine . drivers are up to date , im hoping the monitor is ok , should be as i didnt have this when i had my old build hooked up to it. Is there a way to check whats going on , or does anyone have any ideas ? ill list my spec below incase !

  • asus tuf gaming b650-plus wifi
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7700x
  • Corsair vengeance ddr5 2 x 16 5200mhz
  • asus 4060 ti 8gb
  • Corsair RM850x psu
  • Monitor - asus ROG swift PG278QR ( i do have 2 monitors running but its the asus one that flickers black )

TIA

Definitely try a different HDMI cable, or if possible a Displayport or similar and make sure it's a good quality one.

Younger brother was having a very similar issue with his 3080 and Samsung display in that every now and then, sometimes not even every day the samsung would lose sync and go blank, but the older 1080 second display would be fine.

We swapped out his old IIRC first gen HDMI cable for an Amazon one rated for 4k 60hz (or 120?) and it seems to have stopped it, my guess is that the old cable was borderline for the amount of data it was carrying and it's shielding so sometimes the error rate in signal was high enough to cause it to drop out.

At some point I need to go through my box of spare cables and clearly mark the older ones as only being suitable for HD.

Agree to suggest swapping out the cable as an easy test. Another thing which I think would be worth checking and confirming is the refresh rate settings. Not sure what the other monitor is, but for any random flickering on machines this is something else I try and check to rule out.

the monitopr goes to 165 hz , ive knocked it back to 144 to see if it makes a difference , but yea i was tyhinking of swapping the cable also
