Thinking that the logical upgrade to enjoy RTW at 2560 would be to add a 2nd 280x to have ccrossfire, wrong. Constant computer freezes requiring reboots, in all aspects of the game.

In the old days you had xfire profiles but they seem to have disappeared. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem of xfire crashes? Is there anything I can do in afterburner? I have great fps with bells and whistles but bugged about having to reboot regularly

On a drastic note any news on new amd cards or is a straight up battle of money between a 290x and a 780/ti?

Buy an NVidia Titan, this is the stupid answer but it would work.

I think your problem is that you are running out of VRAM, this game uses massive amounts of it and more than a 280X has available at 1600p using max settings, I think last time I measured it the figure was about 3.5gb.

A 290X would work fine at 1600p but not @4K (I have tried).

I think your best course of action would be to turn the graphics settings down a bit and try again.

I don't think the answer is spending money on a 290X or even Titan as even though they will run the game maxed @1600p you will only get about 25 fps.

Running the desktop in Windows basic frees up a bit of VRAM which can make a small difference.:)

What performance/FPS are you getting with one card (including minimums)? If your running out of video ram (as per the above) I would expect the game to really laggy with drops to 1-2 FPS.

Maybe look at using Radeon Pro, it seems to fix issues that people have with AMD card/drivers Also try asking in the game thread it could be Crossfire isn't supported (wouldn't surprise me CA are slow at adopting new technologies that other developers have been using for years).

Also what are the rest of your system specs? Big battles can cause your CPU problems due to all the AI and path finding it has to handle.

Hi, i only play Rome 2 on my pc, so went through several gpu options. Had 2 GTX670's(EVGA) in sli and had no issues at all, played a dream at 1080p. Upgraded monitor to 2560 x 1440 so got 2 R9 280x Matrix cards in crossfire, fantastic cards but Noisy and the game was a nightmare, just as you describe with weird graphical issues and crashes.
All my searches highlighted driver issues. So sold em and got a GTX 780 ti, wow, night and day no issues whatsoever with high and very high settings across the board i get 60 fps all the time. Love it and the card. Thats my experience any way.
Even tried 2 x gtx780 ti in sli and next to no increase in performance at all. I don't think the game is optimised for sli or crossfire.

You need the latest drivers for the best scaling in SLI, I can also get 60fps totally maxed out @4K but need 4 way SLI to do it.

AMD cards also scale very well on RTW2 as long as you match the settings to the VRAM, 4K and max settings are a non starter for 4gb cards but @1080p or 1600p it is a different story. If anything AMD cards for a long time enjoyed better support on RTW2 than NVidia did, I think at the moment support is about the same for both of them.
