Issues with video freezing but sound continuing whilst gaming

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue; my PC keeps on freezing up when I am playing games but the sound of the game will continue playing as well as voice from Discord, people can also hear me when my PC freezes up also. I have stress tested my graphics card and it didn't occur during that and it seems to be happening at random (I can go days without it happening and then all of a sudden it will happen numerous times in an hour). I have dialled down my settings in MSI Afterburner in case that was causing the issue and I have disabled all applications from starting up when my PC starts up.

Specs:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5800x3d
GPU - XFX AMD Radeon 5700xt THICC III
Mobo - Gigabyte B450MK
RAM - Kingston Fury 3200MHz 32GB

I'm kind of at a loss as to what I can check/do to remedy the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
Is there anything in the event viewer of significance around the time that it freezes?

Do you have any Windows add-ons/extensions like a custom start menu?

Is your browser open while playing?

I assume there's nothing different about the circumstances you're using the PC when this happens? E.g. you're not wired instead of wireless, or not using Discord?

Nothing of significance in the event viewer at all which was annoying - was hoping there would be something easily identifiable as to what the root cause was.

I mainly used to have my work stuff (Teams, Outlook) as well as a browser and Discord open as well. I thought Teams might be the cause of it so moved to using that in the browser thinking I had cracked the issue but it still continued. Even when nothing else was open, just a game, the PC would freeze.

I don't want to tempt fate, but I think the issue might have been resolved. I decided that enough was enough so did a reset of Windows which obviously uninstalled a metric crap ton of stuff I no longer needed and I have had no issues since... touch wood.
