So after last 3 - 4 years on a laptop with a GTX 970m , I've decided on building another gaming PC.
Had previously built one in 2005, 2010 and 2015, unfortunately my 2015 one died after a faulty molex power cable shorted and melted my HDD and it just went unstable afterwards, so I did without for a bit and then got a gaming laptop.
Usage...aiming for VR (have an Oculus Quest 2), high fps 1440p and at least console equivalent 4k (30 fps+) gaming, with some streaming and video capture.
My aim to is get a solid foundation that is mid-high end now and should keep up with games for a couple of years (even if I swap out the GPU at some point). I usually get about 4 - 5 years decent use out my builds.
Purchased so far:
* Case: Lian-Li PC-011 Dynamic Mid ATX in white
* Mobo: MSI X570 Tomahawk WiFi
* AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
* RAM: 32gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200mhz
* CPU AIO: Deepcool Captain 240mm V2 (newer one with anti leak and RGB)
* Case fans: Deepcool CF120 Plus x3 and MF120 x3
* PSU: Corsair RM750x
* HDDs: 1tb Sabrent Rocket 228 PCIe 4.0 M.2
* Monitor: ViewSonic Elite XG270QC
Parts TBC:
* GPU: Bad time for picking one. RTX 20xx and 5700XT prices are still only £100 - £150 ish under the RRP for RTX3070 or even higher for newer cards
I'm going to try and get a 6800 or 6800xt on launch.
Wish me luck!
****EDIT 1 - 5th November****
Managed to grab my CPU, AMD 5600x. I also bagged a RTX 3070 which is due in stock around the 18/11 via Jeff B. I will cancel that if i can get a 6800 or 6800xt on launch.
Parts starting to arrive, Mobo, case and ram in bound from OCuK soon, so can start posting pictures at weekend
****EDIT 2 - 6th November ****
Everything is here! GPU in picture is my old 580GTX which I'll use for setup purposes. Had a message to say my RTX 3070 is due Monday... Although thinking to not open it and go AMD instead, if I can get one at launch.
Off to watch this week's The Mandalorian then I think the build is on!
****EDIT 3****
RAM and cpu were easy to fit. The NVMe in slot 1 (the top heatsink with the Lightning Gen 4 logo on) was too. There are mounting screws with the X570 motherboard but they are so tiny its easy to miss them! Mine were under the manual in the box.
Slot 2 was weird. It has an extra mounting post in the middle, for the shorter type of drives. Once that was out the way it was easy.
This x570 Tomahawk board is really nice. Solid build and has a few heatsinks and even a small fan.
Next up is stripping the case down and looking at cables and fans...
****EDIT 4****
Fans in! I followed a video of a similar build off YouTube:
-Top fans draw air in through the radiator.
-Bottom fans draw air in through the bottom.
-Side fans exhaust air out the back.
They were all easy to fit, no probs.
Cabling...for the power, cpu and gpu I have black and purple extensions from Link In off Amazon, they are nice and sturdy and a nice difference from all black cables.
The Deepcool fans are controlled by the bundled RGB and Fan controllers. RGB plugged into the mobo JRAINBOW 1 and 2 connectors.
Bit messy to start with but I tied everything centrally and mounted the fan and rgb controller to the case.
Cable tidy hides all:
At this point I only had my old GTX 580 and no screen but my 5" info one, but the test fire was a success... Connection wise at least.
Next was a journey into the fun part of building... Getting it to post and recognise everything...
