Well it's a sad day. My old i7930/Gigabyte X58A-UD3R passed away, after years of faithful service. So as I used this old girl for downloads and video editing, what can I chuck in that cheap and up to date. Want to stay with intel if possible. Not interested in overclocking - mobo/cpu/cooler options please guys :-)
I still have the old Asus GTX980 GPU which I hope is still ok to use, along with a corsair H50 cooler.

Do you know whether it's the CPU or MoBo that died? - Can get some decent x79 Xeons (E5 1650v2, 2xxx-v2 series etc) for a few quid nowadays!
If it's the motherboard, my server is on a Jinsha (Chinese) board that can be had for under £50.

If you wanna move to a newer platform, then a cheap AM4 board and 3600/3700x/5600x plus 8-16 GB DDR4 could be had for not a huge outlay (£100-150)

Edit: I haven't really kept up with intel for the last few years

Its had a ongoing crash issue. Tested cpu, gpu, ram, psu, hdd .. all good. Did a bios update and clean install of windows plus driver updates. Ran through a memtest, prime95 without issue. Thought it was all good then it shut down and wont post. Did a cmos reset and tried pulling battery .. i get all led lights come on, gpu fires up but nothing else.

ah, I remember using a X58A-UDR3.If your wanting to go Intel are you thinking of going latest gen ?

Sorry for the late reply. Just for the hell of it i took out the gpu and chucked it in my other rig. Bingo .. failed to post. Put the working gpu in my old system and she fired up right away??? Wtf ... i had run a gpu test without an issue .. so it looks like a gpu fault. I might just keep the old system running for a few days to see if anything happens. It might be a case of a new gpu instead
