Got to see this the other night, and while I really liked the visuals, and particularly the score, I was underwhelmed.
It never really capitalised on the threat. Never made me feel properly scared for Monroe's character. A seriously cool premise kept TOO downbeat in an attempt to pull Carpenter-esque success from itself... but failing.
That "big reveal" when one character gets caught by "it" and we see what happens... was that supposed to be terrifying? It was so goofily constructed and edited that it had no impact whatsoever.
Don't get me wrong... I thought it was a perfectly serviceable horror flick (it certainly scared the wife enough) but despite a few well timed shocks it didn't deliver much besides an interesting premise.
Certainly not the "modern American horror masterpiece" it's being lauded as.
