I've still got this problem on Windows XP.

Everytime I shutdown my computer - I have to wait for permission to shut down my computer.

"It is now safe to turn off your computer"

I looked on microsoft and I don't really understand any of the solutions. On power options it set to presentation. Don't know what else to do.

Worked for me...

One of the old computers at my place of work is the same...
I always thought it something to do with the motherboard being to old and not supporting auto off...

But it always used to shut off on it's own, it started like 2 months ago.

EDIT: I'm on device manager, although not sure what Im looking for.

It says

MPS Uniprocessor PC

On microsoft, it tells me to click on APS Interface Node and enable it under non plug and play drivers. When I open it up - it isn't there and I can't download it from anywhere.

Find out if your motherboard actually supports ACPI. A bios update may add support if it doesn't. Then enable ACPI in the bios and reinstall Windows.

Not a Biostar board is it? Mine had that problem. The only way I found to fix it was to run Windows repair, which was a pain in the neck. I ended up scrapping the Biostar and getting a Gigabyte board.

Asus A8N-E board... as I said it was fine and then it just started shutting down like that.

Try running Windows repair once and that might cure it. Something may have just become corrupt. You may have to run repair twice - the first time you go into Windows setup to run the repair it might give a BSOD saying the machine isn't ACPI compliant. To get around that press F7 during the first part of the setup when it's scanning the hardware. It will then let you repair. Once you have repaired Windows, you'll then have to run repair again and this time it should find that it is ACPI compliant. That's what I had to do with my old board.
