It Keeps Breaking! SSD Issues, I Think... Help?!?!

Firstly, hello! New poster to the forum :)

Secondly, sorry if this is in the wrong place, if it needs moving then by all means shift it! Also sorry for what will probably be an essay, I just like giving as much info from the get go as possible to avoid a million questions from the get go and people possibly going off topic! (I'm used to how forums work ive just never been on this one!)

TL:DR - 1 of 2 SSD's seems to crash, computer freaks out, have to reset it, loses a lot of into and passwords.

I keep having a recurring issue with my tower when I'm working, here's what I know so far...

I have 2 SSD's and one HDD:

(C:) - SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SSD which houses my windows and some applications (mainly ones that don't give you a choice of storage space like office.

(D:) - SanDisk X300 512GB SSD predominantly for large or intensive programmes that I want to open quickly (such as all of my Adobe suite) and a fair chunk of my Steam library.

(E:) - WD Caviar Blue 3TB HDD which just holds everything else, music, photos, archives etc etc etc.

I also have 2 or 3 externals plugged in a lot of the time just because I have to move info around a lot so when I'm home they just go on the desk and get plugged in.

At random points and intervals during my day (and this can be multiple times in a day) I will be working on my computer with my performance monitor open on task manager, I cant seem to find a trigger that sets it off but my D drive will suddenly pin itself at 100% utilisation with 0 read or write showing.

At this point my computer just goes weird, it could be a case of that if I'm using prem pro it will crash and not come back or a game I'm on will suddenly freak out and I will have to reset.
Sometimes when this happens it will also stop any other programmes opening, the shut down/restart buttons to not respond or even for everything to freeze and nothing works apart from the mouse moving round. Naturally I thought SSD is dying or dead but it gets MUCH stranger than that...

The last couple of times this has happened ive noticed other things:

Scenario 1: I'm editing a video from my external HDD, the D drive freaks and prem pro crashes, I've done plenty of saves and know that its all on my external so after realising it isn't coming back I hit the reset button on my tower and fire it back up. go to reopen the project and it wont open because its "corrupted" or a file in it is broken etc etc. Whats more sometimes it will say this for the backup saves too. Then usually after a proper reset it will open again no problem.

Scenario 2: Doing whatever I'm doing, D drive freaks on the performance monitor, everything freezes, reset the computer. When it turns back on, some credentials or settings that I had set have been completely forgotten by the PC, My steam login will pop up instead of logging in automatically, my Prem Pro subscription will be logged out etc etc.

Scenario 3: Again doing whatever I'm doing, D drive freaks, computer carries on working relatively normally until I come to turn it off when it will just say "shutting down" for hours on end but never actually turn off.

These sort of situations can either happen separately or all together, I never seem to lose any data (not that ive noticed anyway) but it all just seems a bit odd. The PC has never blue screened it just does this.

I replaced all the SATA cables to check it wasnt that and have ran hard drive diagnostics etc through things like Speccy and all came back ok.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this and what the hell do I look for first?!?!

Cheers in advance!!!

Jack

have you tried a different sata port?

could you list the rest of your PC specs.

have you checked event viewer to see if there is any errors in there which may help point to a issue?

i had a second SSD for storage that would randomly disappear from my PC and would cause everything to crash and had to hard reset to get it working. on reboot the SSD would not be seen again till i re seated the sata cable, in the end it was a faulty SSD

Tried different cables and ports, this hasn't solved the issue.

MOBO: MSI X99A SLI Plus
RAM: Avexir 16GB (4x4) 2400mhz
CPU: I7 5820k
GPU: 8pack HOF 980
SSD D: Sandisk X300
SSD C: Sandisk Ultra II
HDD E: WD Caviar Blue
PSU: Corsair 750w

I haven't checked event viewer but a lot of it would probably go over my head anyway, I will have to sift through it.

If there is any errors in event viewer post them here and we can take a look at it.

the SSD (D drive), what make a model is it? have you checked to see if there is any firmware updates for it at all?

Have you got any smart data from the drives? I had a very similar issue which turned out to be dodgy sata cables.

Smart data showed 6000+ CRC errors. Normally a drive might get a crc error per year, and since changing the cables they haven't changed.

It might be the drive is damaged and steam + Premier pro might log you out as a failsafe to protect your account.

Having a look at the SMART statistics, all is coming up okay, other than unexpected power loss (due to me having to force reset so much) its all pretty good... That said i remember trying to check SMART statistics after the hard drive had gone loopy and it said SMART statistics not available or not compatible, something like that...

How would i go about posting a photo on here, is it a case of photobucket (or similar) first then link on here or is there a way to add photos straight into the post?

Also I haven't the faintest idea of what the event viewers telling me but none of it seems hard drive or SSD related?

The D drive is a Sandisk X300 (ive updated my first post to add this detail in for the drives)

Quick update on this, the computer blue screened for the first time ever, the code said:

DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS avgiddrivera.sys

when the computer fired back up i had a load of Bad Image errors coming up for pretty much every single programme, the error message stayed the same for each though: C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\Av\avghooka.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.

Any more advice or help?!?! Going to try uninstalling AVG and trying something else to see if that solves anything...

I work at a repair store. Lately we've seen several cases of AVG screwing things up (eg boot freeze which did not resolve until renaming all AVG drivers to .old), so that would not surprise me. Shame, it used to be pretty good.

Yeah I've since removed it but havent replaced it yet, any suggestions of good free antivirus programmes? always used AVG so know nothing else?

Didnt fix the hard drive issue either so mustve just been coincidence...
