Hello,

Friend of mine is looking for a IT Support Engineer 2nd/3rd line level for a day or maybe a couple of days work for one of his clients he looks after.

He's based in Nottingham and needs someone to look over the clients system check backups are configured correctly and working plus a few other tasks nothing to complex.

Are the any companies that specialize in this sort of thing ?

Where's the best place to look for to get someone ?

Any advice would be great

Thanks

I imagine most IT outsourcing companies would provide this service if you waved enough cash in their faces. Particularly smaller ones. :)

I am always weary about an odd day like this. If there was a fault, the contractor (while they may know the software) will not know any oddities or exactly how your system is setup.

If it's just for support then I'd suggest 2x half days, instead of one full day. Reason being if your guy is in on Monday say, and you get a fault or a dead machine that needs rebuilding on Tuesday you're scuppered until the following week.

Doing a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon would give you better cover, and the likihood of someone breaking something on a Friday is less I'd say. Meaning you should have a quiet run into the week. That said, Monday mornings do generate problems seemingly randomly! Well in my experience of 16+ years working in support based environments. :D

At my previous company this was always an issue but my boss being money hungry always agreed to it. Not that he had to deal with the issues mind!

I imagine if it's only the one person looking after this client it cant be a large company so they may not have a lot to support although I do find the smaller company's having less money have some rather odd and complicated set up's that only someone who has worked there will know the odd quirks.

What's the scope of the work? The company I work for could do this kind of thing but I wouldn't send someone in without knowing exactly what's expected. Health check, fix known fault etc?

Trust me some details and I'll see if we can help.
