As you guys well know, it almost that time of year to treat yourself to
something pretty, shiny and new.

And like always I need your advice gentleman.....

I am going to build myself a new system, possible in January or February
after I’ve saved up about £1500..... I know the money could be better
spent, but my pc is old, and giving me that feeling it about to go to the
retirement centre in the sky.

So now it time for Mk 2:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with MAFIA 2

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail

Corsair Dominator GT 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C8 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMT6GX3M3A2000C8)

Asus Rampage III Gene Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 microATX Motherboard

Corsair Reactor 120GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (CSSD-R120GB2-BRKT)

Antec Dark Fleet Series DF85 Gaming Enclosure - Black

Antec CP 1000W Modular Power Supply

This is my first thoughts into the new system, priced at £1330

As I’m sure you guys can guess it going to be a high end gaming system
with internet usage as normal. I’m a big First person shooter fan, and
I’ll be running a Samsung monitor at 1920-1080 which I want to take full
advantage of.

I’ve got the money to burn on it, but like any sensible person if I can save
on parts I will, but I am also a big believer in “you get what you pay for”.

Any thought/recommendation are welcome, I’m hoping this system to last
at least 4 years if not more.

I look forward to your idea’s gentleman....................

The GTX570 is released next week, should be same speed as a GTX480, but cooler and less power hungry.

And Intel new Sandy bridge cpu/motherboard are released in January.

As Stulid says, we really can't specify anything now as any specification we give you will be completely out of date in 1-3 months, due to all the new tech that comes out between now and then (AMD 6950 and 6970 on the 14th December, GTX 570 on the 17th December, Sandy Bridge on the 9th January, AMD 6990 in Q1 2011 etc.).

If you make a new thread a few weeks before you want to build the PC then expect a flood of recommendations.

GTX580 is both cooler & approx 15-20% faster than a GTX480. Also prices will drop on both in the next week or so its a good time to buy one right when this happens ;)
