I had some pictures I didn't know what to do with that I had taken at the Festival of History held at Kelmarsh Hall the other weekend. I decided to submit some to the local paper just out of boredom.

It appears that I managed to get a whole page to myself. :D

Not on that page but used earlier on the intro page.

Okay, I hate giving pictures away as I'm definitely of the mind that if it's good enough to publish it's good enough to pay for. You certainly wouldn't find me giving pictures to the nationals or the BBC who have enough money to pay for stuff.

But, sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, and quite frankly a bit of exposure locally was probably worth more than trying to get a few bob for them.

Still a complete surprise to get the whole page though. :D

Nice pics, but weren't the Romans a little outmatched by that artillery piece? :p

Nope, it's historical fact that roman shields could stop explosives when in turtle formation, they were invulnerable but the most high-powered beam weapons.

Stunning shots, what were they taken with?

A mixture of film and digital kit was used. The Romans and Vikings were taken with a Canon EOS3 35mm, ef f2.8 300mm IS on Kodak UC400 film then scanned with a Nikon V ed film scanner. The World War II shots were taken with a Canon EOS 30D and ef 100-400mm 4.5/5.6.

Very good. Did you send in hi-res jpegs, or Tif files? Straight out the camera?

See above comment and additionally.... The film was scanned as 16bit tiffs. The 30D shots were RAW. All were then submitted as JPEGs.

Cheers for the comments everyone. :D
