Monza
Monza is regarded by many as the embodiment of Formula One racing.

Not only is it a fantastic example of a track that combines speed with skill, it also has a heart and soul all of its own. It has seen some of the finest races of all time, but also some of the sport's worst accidents. The names of great drivers and the sounds of engines from years gone by linger in the grand old trees surrounding the track in the royal park.

Work began on the circuit in 1922 and was completed in under six months. After Brooklands in the UK and Indianapolis in the USA, it was the third permanent race track in existence. With a banked oval incorporated into the design of the road racing circuit, the total track length stood at a whopping 10 kilometres.

Formula One racing visited the circuit as part of the inaugural season in 1950, and it has remained a permanent fixture on the calendar ever since.

Over that time, Monza has borne witness to an incredible list of historic moments, famous victories and horrifying crashes. All combine to make it one of the most magical places on the Formula One calendar. For many there is nowhere that encapsulates the sport better than this circuit. The Italians call it 'La Pista Magica', the magic track, a description few would disagree with.

Yeah, think we'll be seeing the finger return this weekend. Interesting Friday/Saturday forecast. Wet Quali could be interesting for a dry race.

This is going to be decided on the first corner, followed by 53 laps of procession and DRS overtakes.

Thanks Shimmy. This is Ferrari's race to lose.

Not sure about that. Ferrari's strength is the medium speed / grip dependent sections, which is where they were good at Spa. Monza doesn't really have any of those, its very slow speed corners, and then raw traction into the acceleration zone and then down the next straight.

So Hamilton is within half a second of the lap record already - which is 1:21.046 set by Barrichello in a Ferrari in 2004.

Speed trap results in FP1 were interesting.

Ocon - 349.8
Hamilton - 348.1
Magnussen - 346.9
Massa - 344.6
Kvyat - 343.5
Sainz - 343.1
Perez - 340.3
Bottas - 340.2
Grosjean - 339.7
Ricciardo - 338.6
Stroll - 338.2
Verstappen - 336.7
Raikkonen - 336.6
Ericsson - 336.2
Vettel - 331.7
Hulkenberg - 331.5
Vandoorne - 326.2
Palmer - 321.9
Wehrlein - 320.3
Alonso - 319.8

Vettel 17km/h slower than Hamilton down the straight.
Alonso may be faster down the straights in the F2 car.

Ferrari must be holding back compared to Mercedes, cant of dropped that much time in 1 race. Going by speed trap Vettel dropping 5Km/h to Kimi so there is more speed in there, also the Haas is right up there with Ferrari power.

Shame for Red Bull that they are going to be hit with the engine penalties for this race, however suspect tactical as they will know that there car wouldn't have a chance here whereas if they can take the hit here will be more competitive at Singapore.

Lol, this made me chuckle a lot -

30kph slower. Dang. I know the Honda is struggling but that's miles away. Even if you take Vandoorne and call it 25. It's a slug in comparison.

"I have no power!" says - well, who do you think?

Yep. Poor Fernando.

What does this guy have to do to catch a break?!

This is the engine he had to retire in Spa that Honda said there was nothing wrong with it...

Honda said nothing wrong with the engine yet a few laps into the next session it is used in it fails...something tells me were not getting the full story here!

Well that was a pointless practice session - do they all think the rest of the weekend is going to be dry? Most didn't bother to set a time.

If it is still wet in quali then it is advantage Ferrari.
