Itching to upgrade..

Itching to upgrade...not sure why... Think it's just because I haven't for a few years.

Have an i7 920 @ 3.6 ghz d0 chip... Might be able to get more but temps go plus 85..
6 gig ram.... This is at 1066..if I run it faster 2 gb seem to disappear.

Recently dropped in an nvidia 970.

Is there any other chip I could pop in that might stop me from having to get new board cpu and memory...

I think there is an issue with my board.... Something to do with how the cpu sits and 'bends' the memory slots... Running them slower seems to keep the 6gb.... Running a Asus p6t board... And an old corsair h50 cooler.
Maybe it needs new paste?

Temp are 49 just at windows idle.... @ 3.6
Load up prime 95 and boom..... 81 degrees but stable.
Core voltage is 1.216 v

Will check the bios and resit it guys.

Had a look at the cooling.. The fans on the h50i looked like battling each other.... And one wasn't even on!
Changed them round and 3.8ghz...@ 1.2v gives prime 95 a max temp of 82.....
Will have a play around some more.
