Before careers and professional development appeared there was a thread in GD, a lot of people saying it was a pointless subforum that wasn't needed.

I went against the grain and said I thought it would be useful, as did many others.

I actually spend quite a bit of time in here and think it's great that people are helping others out of ruts such as Vidar's recent thread, helping with CV's, giving advice on careers.

It's nice being able to talk about work and issues without the usually GD nonsense as well.

I know this is going to sound a bit corny, but sometimes life seems full of asshats out for themselves but this subforum shows it's not always the case. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to help others out, and you should give yourselves a pat on the back.

Splitting Home and Garden and this out from GD was most welcome. I still think it would be good to have a general 'money' forum for discussing the economy, budgeting, loans, investments etc away from all the 'hilarious' one-liners, but not quite so needed now we have these subforums.

Separate eBay forum too!

We've discussed this as a moderator team and I even ran a poll to gauge ideas for a single super duper eBay thread (to concentrate the bs) but there were mixed reactions. If I recall the poll tied and the consensus was that it could be confusing. Some were also of the opinion that eBay threads should be closed on sight, so I doubt a sub forum would get the go-ahead :D

I agree this sub is very welcome, sometimes reading through GD I do fear for the human race ;) but then when you read through a couple of the subs (motors, this and home & garden) you find a spark of sanity.
