iTouch battery life...

Recently my iTouch has been draining itself like crazy and i don't really know why...

I noticed it on Wednesday when i went to play some music in bed and the battery was on the lowest possible setting, with repeated messages saying less than 10% left. The strange thing is that the ipod was fully charged on that day, and i had only listened to about and hour and a half's worth of music on the bus, and not even on full volume. The only thing i can think of is that i had no auto lock set (for cuteftp reasons) and that it may have been left on my home screen for a few hours doing nothing. I was builing a new PC at the time so i didnt notice it was left on until a few hours later.

This shouldn't drain a completely charged battery though should it? I didnt watch any videos on it at all or view any pics, or even go on safari.

A similar thing happened again yesturday, and i'm now charging it once again. Today i'm gonna charge it fully and then leave it playing music (with a locked screen) at full volume and see how many hours it lasts. Apple reckon up to 22 hours which i don't think it would get anyway, but it'll be interesting to see what it gets.

Anyone else feel the same? :o

If you left the screen on at full tilt it will drain it!

How long have you had it? The battery may not be conditioned yet, dont worry about it. Just leave it charging for ages (overnight) and it will be fine.

I have the iPhone and sometimes it seems like the battery is draining quickly and sometimes it lasts forever.

Temperature can also have an effect, if its cold then the battery will loose some efficiency.

Is your iPod touch jailbroken? There could be some rogue software running that's stopping the device from sleeping.

Yeah, its jailbroken with quite a few different applications installed.

Now you've said that, it would kind of make sense as i dont remember it being so bad when i first got it. Problem was that i jailbroke it after about 2 days, so i never actually got to see how well the battery performed.

I also turn Wi-Fi off most of the time unless im actually using it, which i know sucks up battery life, and the brightness is always set to less than 25% percent (manually, not auto feature)

What kind of JB applications could cause this? Here is what i've got installed:

Can't see anything off the top of my head that would drain the battery unless it was on (such as the flashlight)

Thanks. :)

Nah, don't really know what it's for apart from allowing you to install stuff from installer.

i'll try turning it off. :)

I thought the prefs app kept it on?

Out of the custom apps you have install I have the following:

Labyrinth
iPhysics
Installer
PDF Viewer

I also had sketches at one point. Only battery related thing I have noticed is how good it is :D

You have to manually turn SSH off, if not its gunna eat your battery like homer in a donut factory :O

Also any chance of a copy of that wallpaper you got, id love to adapt it for my iPhone :)

Screen being left on is almost certainly your problem. There's a reason it's configured to turn off after only a couple of seconds.

Busy apps, wifi being on don't help but they won't drain the battery like that. Its the screen.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Left it on earlier on on full volume running through all of my songs. Started it at 2:30pm and by 6:30pm the volume bar was still 100% full, so im happy with that.

Must have been a combination of screen being left on and SSH.

Looks great. :):D

Can you not just use Customize to add another to the dock, or does it not work in 1.1.3?
