The manual says putting on its side turns the basic calculator into a scientific one - mine doesn't. Stays as the basic one!

Anybody else find this?

The firmware for the touch is more or less identical to the iPhones. My touch's calc has a scientific mode...

You do have the V2 firmware?

(any excuse to use Skitch)

Only just got it - bit much having to pay to upgrade the firmware which then meets the spec! Expected it to be free!!!!!

It met the spec when you bought it, and if you bought one today it would match the spec they say it does today. So ner

If you bought it after 2.0 was released, if you moan an Apple store will put the software on there for you, I'm sure of it

They have to charge touch users by some crummy US or Euro law iirc.

Thats broadly correct, same reason the wireless-n enabled had to be paid for a while back. It's a US accounting law which means they can't enable additional services or features for free as I recall, it's not there to screw people over remarkably, it does have a roll in preventing dodgy accounting practices...

There's 2 sides to this (as always)

1) If they gave the 2.0 software away to iPod Touch owners then the iPhone users would feel screwed because that services is essentially paid for on a monthly basis.

2) They could easily charge 10 cents for the update.. they just like milking the cash cow because they know people will pay for it (which is one of the reasons that it (the 2.0 update) dropped in price)
