Well today was the day! Congratulations to those who guessed a macca :D

This car went on sale for less than a day before I purchased it. Immaculate condition, driven lovingly by an owner who has never tracked it, or really put any miles on it at all to be frank.

Last night got the message that the car was ready to go and loaded onto the trailer.

Just past lunchtime he rocked on up.

570S spyder.
Sicilian yellow paintwork.
16k miles.
£400 a year to insure.
£180 a year to tax.

Anyway, onto some initial goodness :D

Awesome, good choice! What did they do in the end with corrosion / inspection / warranty.

All corrosion was sorted with LLoyds who are McLaren certified. The inspection was a full pre-purchase/pre-warranty one and gave the car a clean bill of health, to quote the guy who went over it, "its like new".

Warranty via 3rd party, but may be able to swap to official one now its had the full inspection.

Do you mind saying why you chose to splash cash on something that will depreciate so quickly vs other ways to make money...

Comes down to, why not? Whats the point in making money if you arent going to enjoy it.

Without wanting to show off, my financial situation is very good and I like where I live, given most the time its just me on my own living here, I have no need or desire for a larger or more glamourous pad.

Though part of the reason of trading "down" was to pull money out the aventador to add more BTL's to my portfolio this year.

So ive taken it out for a decent drive this weekend along a well known route.

Initial impressions.

1) The AV was very heavy on the steering, very planted and reassuring. This on the other hand is like a go-kart. Thats not to say its bad, but its completely different, you feel everything and the front end is super light and pointy. It re-assures you in a different way that you know what the car is doing.
2) It appears to have a noise from the front left somewhere when going over bumps or potholes, kind of sounds like a boot is lose one side and when it compresses the air get slopped out. Will have Macca check this.
3) Holy **** the click on the paddle shifters is annoying as hell, cant believe I didnt notice this on the test drives. The AV had muted but tactile feel, this one is obnoxious, that will have to be sorted somehow.
4) The power delivery just brings a smile to your face. Its composed and civilised but when the foot goes down oh my word its relentless.
5) The positive comments are absolutely insane. Everywhere ive been its drawn a croud of people asking questions.
6) The color in the sun is just spectacular.

So far I am loving it, but am not enamoured by it. It's a machine built for a purpose, and it does it stunningly well, but it certainly doesnt have the soul of the lambo, thats for sure!

For the money though, I dont think theres anything close right now that isnt an R8. And after continuing to watch the market on those recently as theyve been continuing to tumble, this certainly feels like a much safer buy for a couple of years.

First mod done today!

For someone usually so pragmatic on such things, why spend so much on a set of plates when a £20 set from halfords would do the job? Extremely hard to quantify, but there is something really special about working with fourdot going through the design options and customisation to get the exact look that you want on the car.

I wanted a cleaner look on the back end, so after a lot of back and fourth, settled on a clean and minimalist look instead of the usual signature plates for this car. I send over a whole bunch of ideas and requests and they designed each one and photoshopped it onto the back of a yellow 570s for me to see how it would look.

That moment you finally get to attach them and "make the car yours" is really personal in a way most non car people won't understand.

Mod time! Wooo!!!

Ok not that woo, but a QOL enhancement :)

Not sure where the quality is as I ended up cutting my hands to shreds, many swearies and a call to @Gibbo

First up, take off the top off the back wall.

Next

Tease out the wiring and plug in the new harness... The person who built my car seemed to have a fettish for cable ties, so this was... very difficult.

At this point, I have no idea how to get the new wiring harness out of the way to plug the new one in.

I wiggle, I jiggle, I giggle in despair. No way that is going anywhere.

A quick call to Gibbo and after removing the back carpet, it opens up 4 bolts that allow the back wall to pull away slightly.

With that extra room I can wiggle the wires down and get the module connected up.

No where for this to go realistically, so just stuck it where it was.

PXL_20240411_144822443.PORTRAIT.ORIGINAL.jpg

And re-assemble the cover.

The result, I can now put the roof down and up using the keyfob :)

A simple but amazing mod.

So not much interest to post up at the moment!

The car is solid, reliable and trouble free so far.

The service teams at Manchester and Birmingham are fantastic, the factory however.... yea... not good.

Replacement door hinges were identified as a warranty job when I putchased the car. We are now half a year later and still waiting for them to turn up.

Otherwise, added my insta handle back on. At least it makes a talking point :D

Service time!

After going into Birmingham for a door switch issue, I came out thinking, theyre just looking for work.

A few "issues" found, which they wanted to investigate and after speaking with people about those issues, they arent anything of concern at all.

On top of that, in the previous service the coolant wasnt changed, and they couldnt find any information as to why despite them having all the car records. I had to eventually ring up a number of dealers and workshops to find out it was done prior to the service.

Anyway, that didnt leave me with much confidence if im honest. If a main dealer cant find out that kind of basic information on their own systems...

So, decision made. Car went to litchos.

As always, the service is top class there. Everything done to manufacturer specs, using official parts. Any "problems" looked at and discussed properly.

Half the price of the main dealer, better service, people I trust. And they did a free MOT while at it.
