I usually build/repair/upgrade everybody elses systems but they are always low end, so expert advice is needed for my system.

I need four 5.25" bays
I will not be overclocking
I do not play games
I may consider a better graphics card if its capable of video capture etc

Here is my list but if you think it needs bettering then please advise -

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)(£176.24)

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£91.64)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)(£70.49)

Enermax Noisetaker 535W EG565AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant PSU (£58.74)

Asus ATI Radeon X1550/TD 256MB HyperMemory TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) (£35.24)

Western Digital Caviar SE16 400GB 4000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache (£57.56)

Can you say exactly what you will be doing on it ?
For example, is there a specific reason youve chosen a quad core processor ?

I may consider a better graphics card if its capable of video capture etc
better than ? does that mb have onboard graphics ? or do you have one already, if so which ?

For some reason I forgot to cut & paste the graphics card -

Asus ATI Radeon X1550/TD 256MB HyperMemory TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express)(£35.24)

However, for what reason jaykay have you chose the ASUS GeForce and the Abit mobo?

I do quite a lot of encoding, copying stuff to and from HD's etc and after looking at many threads on here I want Quad Core.

I choose that motherboard as it uses the same p35 chipset meaning you can use the 1333fbs cores, and quad cores, but its cheaper becuase its not very good at overclocking, but as you said you werent thats ok.

I choose the graphics card becuase it doesnt have hypermemory meaning it doesnt use the system memory, which will make it faster.

do you need the quad in there ? because unless you do something with your computer thats going to use the 4 cores its probably a waste of money :o

Do you know the feeling that you'll never be happy unless you have something? - that'll be me that will if I don't have one whether I use it or not.
A quad core is necessary to make my willy bigger.
