OK, I don't get bsod's
I do have issues with possibly the gfx card sometimes, on start up the screen goes all weird and pixely liney - re-boot and it'll be fine 9.5/10
sometimes the pc seems a bit slow, mostly it is ok, it generally doesn't go into sleep mode if left and will just stay on.

I'm at work right now so don't have all the specs atm (should have done this thread last night at home I guess!)
it is:
Intel Q9450 processor
Asus P5Q P45 chipset mobo
ATI 5770 gfx
Velociraptor 150gb as 'windows' hdd
Windows vista HP
PSU Epsilon 700w

The system isn't overclocked, pretty much everything was bought on the MM probably a good few years old now!

I've run memtest and windows memory - no errors, although only for an hour or so each - maybe longer
I've done a full cycle of hotCPU tester and no errors

Now the main problem is I don't have spare gfx cards to swap and see

What would your course of action be guys?

Thanks :)

Another quickie..... would you bother going to Windows 7 from Vista??

Since you think that it is a graphics related issue have you tried another graphics card / running off on board graphics? (If the mother board has them)

Don't think mobo has ob gfx.
I did a clean sweep of vista the other weekend too.
CPU is ok
Memory is ok
other than that, not sure.

It's just a niggling thing, like I say it runs ok 98% of the time
Sometimes I get the odd gfx thing on start up
pretty rarely it'll freeze, sometimes it feels a bit slow.

I'm possibly thinking it more mobo?, but as it doesn't do it consistently it's hard to pin point
could also be faulty PSU
Maybe I could pull the gfx card out of my sons pc / swap them round.

on start up the screen goes all weird and pixely liney

How far into start up does this happen ?, if its as windows is starting it could be driver related, if its at initial startup it could be more hardware related.

And yes get rid of Vista.
