Hi Gang

Those of you who were around when I first joined the forums will know that PC hardware was a very different beast to what it is now.

2x1GB Sticks of OCZ Platinum 6400 DDR2 was £149.99.
The P45 chipset and a Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 4GB of Gibbo's finest orange GEIL Value RAM was an elite setup.
This lot was regularly paired with a 8800 GTX and housed inside the ultimate PC case. The Antec 900.

It was our most popular case for a reason. Sure the LEDs were only blue and the HDD cages were a hassle to install when you were building 8-10 computers a day into them.
It didn't matter though. If you had a PC, it was probably in a 900.

The original 900 was replaced by the 902. Their new case matched the aesthetic of their new Antec 1200 and was better in some ways than the old 900.
But it wasn't the 900.
A sad day for all involved.

Fast forward 18 years and here we are. Antec have a new 900 and its completely different to what I expected.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new Antec 900. An EATX chassis with enormous potential.
Aimed firmly at performance enthusiasts and workstation installs, the new 900 has taken a completely different path to its older namesake model.

The case can easily accommodate a plethora of hardware and cooling gear with loads of room to spare.
Whilst this isn't a mainstream case, Antec have really smashed the mainstream case market recently putting out hit after hit and now they have something high end to show off.
Their recent success is clearly carrying through to this new flagship offering.

Yeah its expensive, but its cheaper than 4GB of RAM in 2008.

I still regret getting rid of my antec 300, not quite the same pedigree mind!

my parents computer hasn't been upgraded since 2nd gen sandy bridge, that's in a 300 as well.

That cases was brilliant too in fairness, I could smash a build out in one of them in about 25 mins.

My dad is still has an Antec 300. I've had to repair the switches a couple of times, but he doesnt want to get rid of it due to having 2 5.25 drive bays occupied with optical drives. Says he wants to burn the odd music CD for the car.

its a poor sequel , prefer the original..

That case looks horrible. Big grid of holes everywhere. I remember when i think i had a Antec P160W Anodized Aluminum Super Mid Tower, it had a massive side window with 2 big turny notches to open and it opened from top to bottom. Pull out mb tray was also aluminium, was very light, this was like 20 years ago but better lookin than above case, think i paid about 60 for it maybe. If there was something similar these days i might have gone with another one, tho i settled on a nice white be quiet case for current build.

I built myself an Ivy Bridge rig in an Antec 300 (all parts purchased from OCUK) back when those CPU's launched, started out with a HD6850 and ended up with HD7950 Crossfire! Fantastic case imo, the 900 was iconic but I always preferred the 300 personally.

As for the new 900, I actually kinda like the look, it has an almost military type look to it. It's way too big for me however, I'll never move away from smaller form factors for personal builds.

its a poor sequel , prefer the original..doesn't get particularly good reviews either

Got a link to some? The ones I've seen are positive:

The biggest (valid) complaint I've seen is the price, the rest are purely subjective.

I had my 902 for many many years, eventually replaced it with a Fractal Define (R2 IIRC), I think this new case looks great if they did it in a smaller form factor something more like my Lancool 207

My parents still have my Antec 300, the Phenom 720BE that I originally had in it lasted until 2024 before the PSU nuked the motherboard - still a good case to build with (but I prefer my Fractal Define R5)

Looks like a perfectly fine case, but why call it the Antec 900 when it doesn't look like one in any way? Could have done better with the styling of the exterior front and top.

It isn't though is it.

They just recycled the name. :p

Soon it will be cheaper than 4GB of RAM in 2026 as well...
