Hey all,

Time has come again to get back into pc gaming. Many moons ago I knew what fits what and had no issues navigating compatibility issues, but I have spent hours trying to catch up and I am beat. I think that I have selected what should work just fine, but I would appreciate if one of you up to date gents or ladies could check it over.

Board

Ram

Psu

Storage

CPU

GPU

I am still contemplating the CPU cooler.

And in case I decide to go with intel setup will board and CPU combo below work with rest of the components above

Board

CPU

Case

Thanks in advance

Do you care about PCI-E 5.0 and USB4? If you don't, you could buy a much cheaper board. I'd suggest starting with this one and go from there (based on what it doesn't have, that you want):

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £138.98 (includes delivery: £3.99)

Ram
teamgroup-xtreem-32gb-2x16gb-ddr5-pc5-57600c34-7200mhz
Are you aware of the potential problems with config and performance when running RAM above 6400 on AM5 CPUs?

DDR5-6400 and the 1:1 Ratio Advantage
Dropping to DDR5-6400, we see impressive performance that's very close to the higher-speed DDR frequencies, thanks to running at 1:1 UCLK, which avoids the latency penalties of 1:2. At 6400 MT/s, 1:1 is not guaranteed though, it does depend on the silicon quality of the I/O die, and perhaps requires higher SoC voltage. In many cases DDR5-6400 outperforms DDR5-7200 and DDR5-8000, particularly in workloads where memory latency plays a larger role. DDR5-6000 also remains a strong contender, especially at CL28, which is actually the fastest first word timing in all our tests (9.3 nanoseconds). This provides an excellent balance between power consumption and performance, with the added benefit of allowing more power to be allocated to the compute dies (CCDs), further improving overall system efficiency.

Do you do any productivity work? If you don't, I'd strongly advise waiting for the 9800X3D to be in stock again because the 3D cache does much more for gaming than the 12 cores do.

Yes, they're compatible, but are you aware of the Intel 13th-14th gen issues?

I’d go with an AMD build but I’d make a few changes. Replace 7800X3D with 9800X3D which is brand new out but out of stock and is looking likely December availability now

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £898.92 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thanks Tetrax,

I wasn't aware of ram or intel 13th and 14 gen issues, I will research.

Great shout about the board and CPU choice as it will solely be a gaming pc.

Thanks man, much appreciated

Thanks Joxeon,

I am so glad I asked the questions as I was so close to just hitting the buy button

Advice is much appreciated

FYI: Intel claims they have fixed the issues if you install the latest BIOS updates and K CPUs have an extended warranty (5 year), but personally I don't think it is worth bothering with them. I'd either go with AM5, or the new Intel CPUs (Core Ultra), but the Intel CPUs don't have great gaming performance right now (might be improved with BIOS/software updates) so they don't really make sense against the 9800X3D.
