My 360 has just borked I think. Been playing Forza today and a couple of times the game has stopped with the message 'Disc is dirty, please clean it' etc etc. Haven't noticed any marks on the disc at all though.
Just fired the 360 up just now to play some more Forza and go straight into the painter to give it a go and suddenly the screen goes all corrupted and my Golf gets covered in moving dots! I come out of the painter and its still all wrong. Close the game, fire it back up and yep all is not as it should be. Turn 360 off and try again and balls all is still corrupted! Put in Test Drive and again its borked. The dashboard is pretty much ok, but the Live messages are corrupted and as soon as I fire up a game it goes Pete Tong as they say.
Luckily I have an extended warranty but still a royal PITA. Just read this thread and have checked the disc again, and I do have a very faint circular scratch about 1 cm from the center of the disc. So it looks like it has damaged the disc too
Yes mate, I tried Test Drive Unlimited (see pic above).
I just fired it back up and got one read light, bottom right quadrant and an error code E74. I looked this code up and found this:
E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
However I have swapped out my Component Cable for my old VGA cable and still get the same error. Guess its one of these 'rare' cases where the GPU is borked
So 360 number 3 here I come. Does anyone know what the situation is with the hard drive? When I returned my first one to an online game store within its warranty I had to send the whole kit back. This meant I had to go and buy a brand new 2nd HDD and send that one back just so I could keep my original with all its data that couldn't be backed up ( I can't remember which games, but some can't be backed up completely using memory card).
If I send back to MS will they let me keep the HDD?
Just phoned it through to Xbox support and they are have started the process to pick it up under the extended warranty.
However the guy said 'the console will be returned to you within 25 days' Now I know they are probably just covering themselves, but he did say I will get the same console back, just repaired. He also explained that they now put them through a rigorous testing procedure to make sure I don't have any further problems and this is what takes the time.
Has anyone else had MS fix their 360 recently? What was your turn around time?
They have just told me that it's upto 14 days but i am still within the twelve months waranty on this particular console. Ih ope they do send my console back just with a new drive, it's the only one i have ever had that doesn't crash or throw any graphical hissy fits.
I only received mine back from MS a few weeks back, when I sent it in then the waiting time for up to 15 days. I have just sent it back cos its scratching my discs, and they said 20-25 days, she told me the waiting times have gone up cos they have more coming in.
With regards to your problem mark, your 360 is deffo borked! I had that exact problem with mine when ~I sent it back the first time, all the colours went screwy, then it just kept crashing on boot up. Then I got the red lights.
When I got it back they marked it down as a faulty mobo, but who knows!
Also get your 360 packed to be picked up on monday maybe. I phoned on Thursday evening (8pm) and expected UPS to come Tuesday, but I got a knock Friday morning and there he was... I hadnt even packed it up at that point Only took a few secs though, cos I used the box they sent my 360 back to me in the previous time!
