just looked into changing a headlight bulb on a
mk5 mondeo

not exactly going to be done at the side of the road now is it :D

You shouldn't have to dismantle the front of a car in order to change a light bulb. On some cars you have to remove the bumper / go in through the wheel arch, etc. It's just ridiculous. What's the point in designing it like that? I'd understand if it was a self-contained headlamp cluster with all LED bulbs or something.

Renault are guilty of this too, pretty sure it was the Megane or Scenic a while back that required the front wheels off to change the bulbs.

Ridiculous!!

I remember my missus had a mk7 fiesta that someone had cracked the rear reflector on, 15 quid for the part, 55 quid to fit. No way was my reply, I'll fit it myself!! An hour or so later I was furious, what a nightmare it was! Ideally I would have taken the rear bumper off but managed to fit it without, why build these cars in such a way?!

oh I know! so you go to the dealers for every small job you should be able to do yourself.

pah, only took him 4min, can't be that hard ;)

I've spent an hour lunch break replacing a single headlight bulb befor, and annother half an hour stopping the bleeding afterwards... form over function and all :(

it's quite hard to get to my front bulbs in my mazda 3!

screenwash bottle has had a crack for a few months now right at the top and I cba to replace it because it literally requires taking the front bumper off etc.. :o

Wow!! What a complete ball ache! I thought doing my mk4 was a pain but that's just insane!!

mk4.5 was a doddle,

headlight out bulb changed and back in in under 5 minutes,

this certainly wouldn't be getting done at the side of the road:eek:

reckon in the workshop on the ramp I could do that in 15 minutes for both sides at a push. still not ideal if you blow a bulb halfway down the country

This is why you should buy a quality car like a BMW

The Mk4 isn't that bad, its more the angle you have to wiggle the unit to in order to get it out

Isn't it a legal requirement to be able to do this at the side of the road? Surely such a task should be made easier?

Why couldn't it have been like the first generatio XC90. You eject the headlamp by pulling a lever.

Granted I understand why it might be tricky to allow access from behind the headlamp unit, but there are viable alternative approaches (as above) compared with dismantling the car.

That's crazy, like he says in the vid what will it be like once the cars covered in crud.

Mk3 was piece of pee, pull out 2 clips and the whole light unit would come out.

Used to be, but I guess as usual the powers that be folded in favour of the manufacturer not caring.
