...I've got the overclocking bug. I want to do it but don't know how. Thats where you guys come in ;)

My Specs:

Motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Graphics Card: Asus NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX Series GPU
Memory: Geil Ultra DDR2 PC6400 (4 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12) (4GB)
PSU: Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W
HDD: Western Digital 500GB (x2)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate

I've just ordered a "Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler" to replace my stock cooler, Good start?

My Bios and all the different settings I should change are confusing me :(

Help!!! What should I do?!?:p Thanks for the help ppl.

Okay, So I've finaly got my CPU @ 3Ghz YAY! :D

Now here's where Im a little stuck. My FSB is set as 335x9, VCore @ 1.35, DRAM is set as 670MHz yet my memory is supposed to be 800MHz.

"to make full use of the DDR2-800, I've applied a memory ratio of 5/6 which means the memory will be running at 804MHz."

I have two options in the BIOS, I can have my memory set as 670MHz or 836MHz. What does the memory ratio mean? I cant find any options in my BIOS for memory ratio....

....Thanks for all your help so far gents :)

Just put them memory at sync and forget about it, you'll be good all the way up to 400 FSB (800 DDR2) by which point the CPU will either be at 3.2 (400 x 8 multiplier) or 3.6 (400 x 9 multiplier) and its between these points that the CPU will begin to max out.

In my experience, the slight loss in memory bandwidth has very little if any noticeable hit on system speed - mainly because if you're running the memory faster than the FSB, the theory is that the memory is 'waiting around' for the FSB as that is where it gets its data from.

edit: sync in this case would be 670MHz. As a rule, memory cannot run slower than the FSB, but can run faster (with the use of ratios)

- The ratio between the CPU speed and the FSB is the CPU multiplier. On the Q6600 it goes from 6-9

- The ratio between memory speed and FSB has lots of different names, but is either sync (same speed) or greater, all the way up to double speed (I think, not a hard and fast rule though).

So should I leave the DRAM at 670MHz or change it to the higher value of 836MHz? That artical you posted confused me aswell lol, Im not really a technical person. At the moment my DRAM is set to 670MHz, I dont want to change it to 836MHz incase something goes wrong and my computer explodes into 3.4 million pices. Please Help...:D
