I see ocuk has a nice selection of ram in this week only on offer. I want to upgrade from 1gig corsair xms3200. I want a 2gig kit preferably at cas2.. what do you recomend? I can afford up to £150.

How bout this stuff..

G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS) CAS Latency : 2-3-2-5 (PC3200)

I never heard of them before though, are they any cop?

Aaaargh I see ocuk are selling - Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS) 2-3-3-6

Should I buy this or the G.Skill stuff? they are both about the same price.

G skill. I had some of that Corsair a while back and performed the same as cheap generic memory at anything over 200mhz. I reckon this was down to the revision, but you never know. I'd also consider the ocz 3200 EL, got some meself, very nice ram that.

I was exactly the same as you a couple of weeks back. Same existing memory and same options of upgrading.

Bought the Gskill ZX - banged it in (lovely tight timings) put it on a 166 divider and it runs superbly well.
Sold the corsair stuff for £65!! so in the end the 2gb of gskill only cost net £85!!

Go for it - you won;t regret it.

I seem to remember Smids I think saying that the ocz and gskill uswe the same ram chips, but don't quote me on that. Either memory is good stuff.

Thanks guys I'm definatly going to buy the G.Skill ram now for sure. Like you Booyaka Im gonna flog my old 1 gig Corsair xms3200 cas2 ram to help fund the purchase.. cant wait. :)

you won;t regret it at all - the corsair stuff was great but with 2gig sucha difference.

Excellent I just sent for - G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS)

and its due tomorrow. :D

Thanks for the recomendations. ;)

Nah I just bought what was on offer for this week. Not really too bothered about the timings hugely, I will be happy with what I bought, looks fast enough for my needs. :)

Higher speeds with slacker timings are roughly the same as lower speeds with tighter timings, so theres nowt in it in gaming/real world.

I just got it and installed it in my PC. System boots fine and seems very fast, is there any settings I need to apply in windows? to the page file etc?

Also should I change the settings in my bios to - 2-3-2-5

As thats what it says on the side of the ram. Havent had a chance to play with it much yet, but I'm delighted. :D

yep, go into the bios and set the timings to 2-3-2-5-1t at stock volts, it should do those settings no probs at all. You'll probably have found the timings are quite slack if you let the bios detect by spd, so you have to manually set the timings lower, thats normal.

Excellent thanks mate, I was looking for something to read about it. So far so good too, I'm very happy with this ram. :)
