Time to reformat my computer as it is full of crap, so can any1 suggest things I should backup, such as stuff I should download before I reformat. I always get caught by that XP virus when I fist connect to the net when I reformat

Network card/modem driver. Everything else you can download afterwards anyway 
Before you connect to the 'net for the first time. Enable the ICF/Windows Firewall temporarily whilst you perform a Windows Update. You can disable it after all the service packs/patches are installed. Note, you'll only need to do this if you have a direct connection (i.e. USB modem). You won't need to if you have a broadband NAT router.
