So its been a few years since my last new build (thanks to the recommendations on these forums for the last spec) but now I am ready for a little upgrade.

Current key specs are:
OCZ ZX Series 850W '80 Plus Gold'
MSI Z68A-GD65-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 - Overclocked to 4.4/4.5
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
OcUK GeForce GTX 580 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express

I've now had to sell the flight sim and so am looking to get back into gaming (Elite, FPS's, Driving etc) and thinking of suitable upgrades. I would like to go with 3 screens if possible (sold the projector too as no longer have space) so I am initially thinking new Graphics (maybe a 780ti) and 3 suitable screens for surround gaming.

I would prefer not to have to do a full build so if you think it will still be ok keep the MB, i5 and memory...

Budget is flexible but not really looking to fork out £2k just on a titanz ;) but £700 is ok plus however much for the monitors...

So any recommendations?

Cheers folks!

Yes, keep the RAM, i5k and motherboard. Also PSU can stay.

Want to upgrade the case etc?

This is what I'd do.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 780Ti DirectCUII OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £499.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case with Window £89.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Silverstone Cable Extension Value Bundle - Black & Blue £13.16
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Blue £4.24
1 x Silverstone PCI 8-Pin to 6 +2- pin PCIe Cable 25 cm - Black / Blue £4.24
1 x No Molex to SATA Adapter Required £0
Total : £701.21 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Also what cooler do you have?

Hi,

Ok other kit is as below:
Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Midi Tower - plenty space still in there
Multiple Crucial RealSSD M4 SSD's plus a 'normal' HDD

Cooling is all ok too with Corsair Hydro liquid cooler for the i5 and extra fans etc in the case.

Will the i5 really throttle back any potential gain of a new GPU even if it is running on an overclock at 4.5?

Cheers

That is two 280X's, quite a bit slower than 780 SLI - I think most people would here suggest an i7  That's an interesting article though, thanks! :o

Even with 3x 7970 its not a huge difference and BF4 I think cores just matter even if its a single GPU.

Only reasons I suggest sli 780s is I'm not 100% confident a single GPU can get 60fps on 3 screens.
