Bloomin' servers

I'm getting a load of 2124/5/6's again which means my ppd has gone to pots. Can someone please shoot the serve which dishes out these wu's :D

I ignore the output from my machines that are not running winsmp as it really gets on my nerves to see a perfectly good 4800 with 2 Gb of fast ram churning away 24/7 for a poxy 90 ppd when a machine with half the power and half the leccy bill will score 20 times more running linux. The 21's being the worst of the bunch.

Err, linux SMP - with VM/ubuntu as per the guide is the answer to that. (and it's better ppd that the WinSMP)?

Edit: just re-read your post - why can't the 4800 running smp (either via linux / linux-VM or WinSMP) when your other pc's are?

The problem lies with amd chips, they are pants at f@h. I get more points running one instance of the cpu client and one of the gpu client than i do running smp.

I wont use linux or ubuntu on the amd machine as its the family pc, used for homework, instant messaging, surfing and printing by my wife and kids and I want to keep it as simple as possible.

My machines and my staffs are another matter entirely, Ive used ubuntu on my sig machine but when winsmp went beta I installed that instead, slightly less ppd but infinitely less hassle.

My Dell xps runs winsmp also and churns out between 1250 and 1500 ppd depending on wu.

The rest are all laptops running cpu client intermittantly.

I tried Windows SMP but had to lift it as it was going to take 6 days to finish it's first job and the deadline was 4 days.:(

Now, both cores have 2125's running, so low points for me too.:(

Still, it's all the name of research.:)

Apart from the time it took me to install the VMware/ubuntu SMP setup (noobie-itus), it just sits at the bottom of my taskbar out of the way. Wife uses pc to e-mail/surf as required not a problem. If on the other hand if family pc is used be people that just can't leave an icon alone, I understand fully.

My little boy likes 'playing' with the wireless keyboard - had 26 IE windows open when I get home yesterday :D

He's no quite got the differance between a yamaha keyboard and a Logitech keyboard :D

I see your 11 month old and raise you with an 11 year old with rampaging hormones that spends this precious time of her life working out ways of causing her Dad no end of grief.

Gawd bless her :D

And I'll raise you a 7month old who likes to wiggle and chew the mouse.... fortunately she's not clicked on anything..... yet..... ;)

You can close the VMWare window and it will continue to run as normal. To reopen it you just open VMWare from the desktop shortcut and select localhost again.

You can then monitor it from Windows using fahmon.

Really? If so then that's more hidden than the WinSMP client, which still doesn't run properly as a service.

Might do this when I get my C2D rig set up - are there any specific instructions for doing so or does it just happen when you close the VM?

You just click the red X in the top corner and it continues to run.

You have to set up the foldingathome folder in Ubuntu to allow it to be shared with Windows. There's instructions somewhere in this forum. Once it's shared you can add the smp client/clients to Windows fahmon and monitor it.

Result - thanks for that Cob :D
I did this by acident a day or two ago and was very happy to see I hadn't killed my wu when restarting VM - Thought I'd just been lucky.
