Hi Folks,

It's been 6+ years since my last PC (ordered from here) and its time to treat myself to a new one. I don't really have a budget as such but I don't think i need to spend much more than 1k-1.2k for a fairly nice gaming rig? I only really play Dota 2 just now but i do dabble in other games from time to time. I have my eye on the new total war: warhammer game and would like to be able to play it maxed out. I am however in no great rush to buy, if there is any tech on the horizon worth waiting for I am happy to do so.

No requirement for a monitor really, amazingly the old acer i bought way back when still works just fine. I did however pick up a really nice set of Sennheisers recently that I've been bottlenecking through a xonar U7, so a meaty sound card is definitely a top priority.

*edit* Current set up

Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail + World In Conflict PC Game
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two (V3) Ultimate Gaming Case (with USB3.0 Support) - Black
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK) (this died on me 3 years back)
OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Triple Channel (OCZ3G1333LV6GK)
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)
Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (replaced my old card)
250gb SSD (recent)

Thanks as always!

What do you have right now? I think it might be worth you waiting until the game you want to play is out. The old i5-2500s are still decent gaming processors today.

i7 4690k, Noctua NH-D14, MSI GTX 970 (Twin frozr), Asus PRO gamer z97 Mobo, G.skill ripjaws 2400mhz (2x4GB).

Depending on what you want to do really. you could keep the case or choose a new one, RAM (although a little slow), up to you if you want to keep the PSU (i would). You could get a cheaper cpu but the price difference isnt massive and the 4690k is a great all round CPU and great for gaming. You could get the 4790k if you plan on anything else other than gaming.

A GTX 970 will be fine for gaming (one of the best price-performance cards) and wont have a problem with the total war game your looking to get.

Just threw a decent cooler on there, up to you if you want to get a cheaper one or a AIO watercooler, if your wanting to overclock the CPU. If not something like the noctua or cheaper cooler will be fine like a hyper 212.

Right, wait until Warhammer is out, then decide. It's quite likely that there'll be an offer of a GPU with free Warhammer.

Looks good the build reaper posted. I went for the 970 purely on cost. The 980's are very good but they are a jump in price for respected increase in performance. Still if your budget allows go for it for sure.

Id personally be tempted to keep the 250GB SSD for OS and apps and get a decent 1-2TB HDD for Games. Games wont be any faster with an SSD just an increase on game load times.

Server upgrade means I cant access anything but the homepage on OCUK :(.
