Is there any way to stop iTunes defaulting to airplay when I turn my TV off?

I have a Mac mini plugged into a Yamaha RX677 via HDMI, then HDMI to the TV. All is well when I'm playing iTunes over HDMI when the TV is on, but as soon as I turn it off, but still want the music on, it defaults to airplay which I don't want it to do!

Have you tried plugging some cheap headphones in?

Edit: Oh I see what the issue is now. It's outputting audio over HDMI so it assumes that the TV being turned off also means the audio has stopped.

Unless your receiver can clone the TVs EDID information so it seems like it's always connected then you don't have many options. Maybe use the display off setting on the TV but still leave it powered up? Or the optical output on the Mac mini?

I'll have a play with the settings. The Mini is a 2010 version so no optical out i'm afraid.
