itunes and deleting files

Hi,
I'm cleaning up my music collection and want to delete some files off my hard drive. I remember previously that when I deleted a song from the itunes library it would ask me if I wanted to delete off the hard drive too, however now it doesn't ask me that and it only takes the song off the playlist. Does anyone know how I can make it delete the song off the hard drive too?

I think it only deletes the song aswell if you let itunes manage your music which means it puts the files in the itunes libary.

I'm quite sure that it can delete when itunes does not manage your library as I've never got itunes to manage my library and was able to get it to delete.

You have to do it in "Music."

And it will only give the option to delete songs that are in your "iTunes Music" folder, even if iTunes isn't managing it.

Correct. It has to be in your iTunes music file. If it's elsewhere it will just remove it, you will have to delete manually.
