Hi all

I've recently got my new MBP and I am now ready sort out my iTunes.

I backup all my songs onto my external HDD from my old windows PC. I used to just plug the external HDD in and then access the songs via itunes inc syncing them to my iphone.

If my external HDD was not plugged in then when I tried to play a song from the library it would just say something along the lines of 'song not found'

How do I do this in osx? I tried copying direct from my hdd to iTunes but it just puts my music on the mac and I don't want this.

You'd need to change iTunes default library to point to your external HDD

if you go to the iTunes preferences in the tool bar, then advanced, there is a button there to change it.

I think that's what your wanting? :)

Yes mate, I did just try that about 5 minutes ago. Changed it to the correct location etc but when I 'ok' the settings as you would...nothing happens. It doesn't put any songs in the library or anything.

I don't think itunes auto scans new locations, you still have to just drag the music folder from your HDD to the music sections on itunes to add the songs in.
