I regularly use iTunes and one thing I have noticed is that the iPodService service automatically enables itself in Windows Task Manager despite being disabled as below:

How is this possible as I thought that disabling a service means that it stays disabled?
I have no iPod nor do I have any intention of buying one so I really don't need the service!

It's not a big deal but I hate having services starting up by themselves

Does anyone else get this?

omg w000t lol

i thought no one was ever gonna post about this, its been an annoyance to me to but i just thought it was just me so never bothered posting as i thought people would just say "disable it" when i already am

i eagerly await a fix, its so annoying

Exactly why I stopped using it. I tried iTunes last year and was extremely impressed, then I noticed a service running and got annoyed, I hate stuff that installs services unless they're defraggers/anti virus tools or low level os utilities.

I'm an iriver user so don't need or require such a service. I disabled the bugger and in services.msc and it had no effect, so I uninstalled.

Would disabling it in Administrative Tools > Services sort it out?
I've already tried that as I posted my screenshot from there.

I like iTunes too much to uninstall it just because of this minor annoyance, so I will live with it and just disable the process from within WTM itself.

guys, what u need to do is, goto the program files in the ipod folder and just change the filename of it and it wont run LOL

i tried stopping the service too but that didnt work, i just changed the filename and bingo
